From 12 to 14 June 2025, the fifth edition of the “Galileo Galilei Science&Space Festival” will take place in Frankfurt and Darmstadt.
This festival is dedicated to the popularisation of scientific culture and topics and to highlighting the extraordinary network of Italian researchers in Italy and abroad.
This science festival, which is free and open to the public, subject to prior booking, is intended once again this year to be a concrete testimony to the leading role played by Italy in the field of fundamental science and technological research. The fifth edition presents some important novelties.
It starts on Thursday 12 June, at 7 p.m., at the Physikalischer Verein in Frankfurt (Robert-Mayer-Str.2/FFM) with the celebration of ESA’s 50th anniversary and a lectio magistralis by Dr. Ian CARNELLI, Head of the Systems Department at the European Space Technology Centre (ESA-ESTEC) based in Noordwijk, who will speak on the topic “Planetary Defense Activities at the European Space Agency – Working Towards Protecting the Earth from the Asteroids Threat”
Dr. Paolo Ferri of the Italian Culture Club ESOC-EUMETSAT will moderate the meeting, in English. Q&A in English and Italian.

On Saturday 14 June, the Festival will move to Darmstadt, this time to the ESA-ESOC Presse Centre – Building H – (Robert-Bosch-Str. 5 – Darmstadt), where, starting at 17:15, we will have the opportunity to listen to Professors Annalisa Dominoni and Benedetto QUAQUARO (professors at the Politecnico Milano/Dept. of Design), who will give a lecture in Italian on “DESIGN SPAZIALE ITALIANO – Abitare lo Spazio” introduced and moderated by Silvia Sangiorgi. This will be followed by a breaking news in Italian by Elia MAESTRONI (ESA-ESOC) on BIOMASS: An exceptional LEOP for an exceptional mission (moderated by Paolo Ferri), and finally the talk, in English, by Claudia TRANQUILLI and Enrique ORDAS (EUMETSAT) on “Meteosat Third Generation Sounder – Objectives of MTG-S mission” (introduced an moderated by Flavio Murolo).
