Knowledge of the weather \u2013 as instantaneous information and especially as prediction capability – has proven to be an asset not only for commercial and financial reasons but more and more for strategic positioning, geo-politics and unfortunately also war. It has shaped our cultures, our faiths and our way to live and socialize. People are and behave in no negligible part mirroring the weather of their lands. One way or another. This has made Earth Observation, Meteorology and Climate study such an important discipline, international organisation like EUMETSAT, NOAA or CMA have been funded understanding the importance of this sector and have grown tremendously over the last 40 years, providing to the global citizens an unimaginable added value of safety, food security, wealth, commerce, transportation and well being.<\/p>\n

But now\u2026 even if not all have yet realised it, we are on the verge of a profound change.<\/p>\n

CV<\/strong><\/p>\n

Flavio MUROLO <\/strong>graduated in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Naples summa cum laude. Until 2004 he was in charge of the design and test of the 1st<\/sup> LEO Attitude and Orbit Control system in Thales Alenia Space in Rome used on several missions, like Cosmo-SkyMed, P.R.I.M.A. and Radarsat-2. Later he moved to ESA\/ESOC in Darmstadt as the Principal Operations Engineer for the ESA cornerstone mission Herschel-Plank. In 2007, he joined EUMETSAT as Instrument Operations Engineer for the MetOp mission and founded his own consultancy company to provide high skilled specialists to both GEO and LEO programmes and operations. As of 2009, he joined EUMETSAT as staff member for the Meteosat 1st<\/sup> and 2nd<\/sup> Generation satellites, becoming the EUMETSAT manager for several projects like the MSG-3 and MSG-4 LEOPs,\u00a0 the establishment of a new mission over the Indian Ocean, the first MSG reorbiting and others. Since 2018 he is the Operations Manager for all the Geostationary satellites of EUMETSAT recently augmented by the state of the art\u00a0satellites of the 3rd generation. His team covers all the activities from the operations preparation of the Meteosat satellites to their operational service including application of new technologies and end of life strategy definition. He published more than 20 scientific papers focussing on operations of satellites and space systems, space debris and spacecraft reliability and continued his education throughout his career with institutions such as Ashridge-Hult, Harvard and the George Washington school of business. Since 2019 he the EUMSTSAT Head of delegation to the COSPAS-SARSAT Council and more recently has been appointed as the Co-Chair of Space Situational Awareness WG in EUMETSAT.<\/em><\/p>\n
